>Slowing Down the Music

>As I was driving home on Friday, I had a lot of time to contemplate the speed of the music of the Christmas Season. I realized that the faster a song is sung the less time we have to contemplate it’s meaning. I know, you’re thinking “Thank you, Capitan Obvious!”.

Let’s think about this for a moment: Bing Crosby’s version of “Joy To The World” versus any contemporary pop/R&B artist’s version. The newer versions of the old favorites are faster and seem to be more of a “courtesy carol” than the older ones. Please don’t hear me say that the newer versions are any more or less heartfelt (that’s not my place), but when we (or at least I) hear them they have a greater tendancy to sound like something that a person is checking off of their list.

Isn’t it funny, about 50 years ago someone was probably saying the same thing about good ole’ Bing…

I’m off to contemplate the season… S – L – O – W – L – Y…
