>Is Newer Better? In This Case, YES!

>Remember the days when you had to go to the library, look in an actual paper card catalog if you wanted to locate and check out a a book at the library? I do! Although I must say, going online to search and reserve a title is SO much easier…

The old way
1. put coat on and bundle child

2. put child in car

3. drive to library

4. take child out of car and go into library

5. look up each book by title in the card catalog while simultaneously corralling child and not allowing him to destroy card catalog

6. write down call numbers on scrap of paper using tiny pencil

7. take child and locate each book while simultaneously corralling child and not allowing him to remove all books from shelves

8. take books to check-out

9. put books in bag

10. put child in car

11. drive home

12. go in house and unbundle.

The new way
1. Put child down for nap

2. Log into library account

3. Look up books by title in online catalog

4. Place hold on each item

5. Log off of library account

In the last 10 minutes, I looked up and reserved 5 books (both fiction and non-fiction) at my local library branch. Do you know how much time and energy that would have taken in the “old days”.
